TOPSoccer 2010 Photos

Harleysville TOPSoccer

The Harleysville Soccer Association is proud to offer TOPSoccer to our community. TOPSoccer stands for "The Outreach Program for Soccer" and is designed for school-aged children with physical, developmental, emotional, and/or mental disabilities. The program helps serve the physical and social needs of our community’s children who want to participate in fun activities, but who, because of their disabilities, may feel left out of traditional sports programs. This summer season of soccer training and games is taught by caring adult and high school volunteers. Teams are divided based on the age and ability of participants attending on a given day.

Dear Coach Cameron and Coach Debbie,

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to both of you for all of your time, effort and caring that the two of you put into this season. In some ways this has been the best season yet that Cynthia and Scotty have had with TOPSoccer, not that the other seasons were not good (they were!). But, I saw my children connected, engaged and empowered in a way that I had not seen in previous seasons. They are also seeing friends from past seasons and I dare say, feeling a sense of security, as a result.

Additionally, if you could please let the peer buddies know that although they did not have much time with the children, their contribution was felt. Cynthia and Scotty always informed me when Friday was coming so that I would not "forget" to take them to soccer. I am so grateful that they gave so much of themselves from the time they dedicated to the compassionate way I saw them nurture all of these special children.

I tell everyone I know how wonderful this program is and how blessed, I feel, that my children are fortunate enough to have the TOPSoccer program available to them.

TOPSoccer Peer Buddies Needed

To help ensure the success of this year’s TOPSoccer program, we are looking for dedicated PEER BUDDIES to help out at the games. By volunteering a few hours of your time, you can make a real difference to each and every TOPSoccer player on the field. The hours you can contribute will be well spent, and utterly appreciated.

TOPSoccer Survey Results

Summer 2009 Survey

Thank you to everyone who participated in our summer 2009 TOPSoccer Survey. Our response rate was 44%, with 8 out of 18 families sending us their input. Following is a summary of the results, as well as a list of follow-up action items that we have planned.

Survey Results

Most people want the program to stay on Friday nights
Most people like the changes we’ve made; they love the group of peer buddies we now have
Most want to try to have a half-time game at next year’s Souderton v. Christopher Dock game
Most want to explore intercommunity play with West Mont’s TOPSoccer team

Follow-Up Actions

We plan to follow up in the following ways:

· Meet and discuss findings

· Communicate to all possible schools in our geographic footprint for next year

· If agreed, coordinate a half-time game and work on intercommunity play for next year

· Make sure TOPSoccer players are included in team photos etc. for next year as part of the regular schedule

· Consider including TOPSoccer in the 2010 Soccer Day schedule (possibly a feature game against West Mont)
