Soccer Day 2010

Soccer Day is only a few days away! Here’s the info you need to know:

AT A GLANCE: Soccer Day will be held on Saturday 9/11 with games beginning at 9 a.m. Your coaches should have forwarded you the tournament schedule, and they are posted on the club website (see below). It is expected that play for the final games will conclude in the early afternoon.

Rain Date Contingency: Please note that the rain date is set for Sunday 9/12 with play starting at 1 p.m., conditions permitting. This will include final games for the U10, U12, U15, and U19 leagues only (there is no rain date for U6 and U8). In the event of a rain cancellation on Saturday, the top two teams will be determined by the league managers (based on the qualifying games results) and the finalist teams will be notified on Saturday.
VOLUNTEERS: We still need many people to help! We’ll need setup crews on Friday night, Food crews during the day on Saturday, and tear-down crews after the games on Saturday. The tournament is a much shorter format this year which makes the volunteer time slots shorter so you won’t miss as much of the action. Please e-mail us to offer your help.

SCHEDULES: Schedules for all games & activities are posted on the website below. Please continue to look on the website for any last minute changes.
Please have your child at his or her team’s assigned field before the scheduled game time. Teams not ready to play at the scheduled starting time risk forfeiting their games.
CONDUCT: While Soccer Day is competitive, we ask that everyone conduct themselves in the same manner as we all expect - please, no yelling at the children or at the referees. Keeping our approach positive will provide the best experience for all involved.
PARKING: We anticipate parking to be difficult this year since we are returning to a one-day format. Please do what you can to carpool or reduce the number of cars that need to be parked in whatever way you can. There is a lot of parking available at the pool lot of the Harleysville Community Center, the baseball lots off Gruber Road, and at Indian Valley Middle School.

Please do NOT park on the grass, in fire lanes, any No Parking areas, or at the Peter Becker Community!

FOOD: There will be food stands at both the Community Center and IVMS fields to help players & fans keep their energy level up between games. Be sure to stop by for some refreshments.

MEDALS: Coaches will distribute medals to their players at the end of the last scheduled game.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Once again we have an opportunity to bless kids in Haiti and Liberia with donations of spare soccer uniforms, spikes, and balls. There will be a large donation box near the refreshment stands. For the U15 and older leagues: Haiti needs uniforms for a whole team. For a poor village to have a soccer team is a real boost for them. It’s a small sacrifice that makes a huge difference! Please ask your team to help out and if you’d be interested in helping with the collection please contact Alex Krail via email at kraila@comastl.net. Thanks so much!
We all look forward to a great day of soccer. Please make sure we can all enjoy the day by doing your part by volunteering and honoring our parking guidelines. Have fun!
Soccer Day 2010 is on Saturday 9/11
New format this year!

Mark your calendars: Soccer Day 2010 will be held on Saturday September 11th. We’ll be introducing a new format this year, and qualifying games for some leagues begin next week (week of 8/30), and others the following week. The weeknight qualifying games begin at 6:00 p.m., with 20-minute halves for U10/U12/U15 teams, and 25-minute halves for U19. Scores/standings from the weeknight games will be factored into the ultimate Soccer Day playoff standings.

Please see the schedules below for your team’s details.

Rain Date: If we are unable to play on Saturday 9/11 due to weather/field conditions, a modified Soccer Day will be held on Sunday 9/12 beginning at 1:00 p.m., conditions permitting. Sunday’s plans call for only the top 2 teams (based on the weeknight qualifying games) from each age bracket (U10 and older) to play on the rain date. There is no rain date for the U6 and U8 leagues.

++ In order to accommodate parking and field availability, U6 teams will be assigned one of two time slots:- either 8:30 or 10:15 a.m. This time slot will hold constant for the entire season. Given the number of players at the U6 age level, requests for specific time slots cannot be honored.
* Session dates and times are not guaranteed until field availability is confirmed and registration has ended. Note: Parents of U8 coed players must select Mon/Wed or Tue/Thurs nights of play during registration. Your child will then be assigned to a team with those nights of play.
** Training sessions & games are held at the soccer fields at Indian Valley Middle School (IVMS), the Harleysville Community Center (HCC) or Lower Salford Township (LST), adjacent to the HCC fields. Coaches will inform players of their field assignments before the 1st session. U12, U15, and U19 age groups may play home and away games with Towamencin Youth Association. Home and away games would start in August. All games played in July will be on Home fields
*** Coaches will contact players’ parents by 6/30 letting them know their childrens’ team assignments. If you have not heard from your child’s coach by that date, please contact your child’s Leagues Manager. Click here for club’s policy on team player assignments

Small-Sided Games
In August 2003 the US Youth Soccer’s State Associations approved changes to the Policy on Players and Playing Rules that affects the game for players under age twelve. Current US Youth Soccer policies require that teams with players aged 10 and younger play games with no more than eight players per side. This rule details age group specific playing numbers.
